We are a Congregation of Missionaries founded by St. Anthony Mary Claret on July 16, 1849, in Vic, Spain, commonly known as Claretians. The official name of our congregation is the Congregation of Missionaries Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, This is a delagation of the congregation Based East Africa and our focus is on spreading the Gospel through education, pastoral outreach, communication, and formation of local clergy and lay leader

Projects and Ministries of the Claretian Missionaries

Claretian Missionaries in East Africa focus their ministries and projects in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, on educational, pastoral, health, and transformative development effort

In Kenya, the Claretians are active through parish work, lay formation, leadership and new outreach:

  • Holy Family Parish, Kiembeni and Sacred Heart Parish, Shanzu (Mombasa – established 1992): Both parishes support youth formation, liturgy groups, lay leadership, and local communications outreach.
  • St. Joseph Parish, Limuru, Nairobi (est. 2001): Active in catechetical training, family ministry, and justice & peace activities.
  • St. John the Evangelist Parish, Ngaremara (Isiolo Diocese – est. 2012): Outreach among pastoralist communities; involved in sports‑based peace initiatives and basic ecclesial communities.
  • Kimbeni Prayer Garden, Mombasa: Established in 2022 as a contemplative sanctuary for prayer amid urban congestion; blessed in May 2022 by the Auxiliary Bishop of Kolon (from earlier summary).
  • St. Jacinta Parish, Chebororwa (Eldoret, Western Kenya): Designated new mission station in March 2023 for vocational and pastoral outreach in the region. Fr. Athanasius Madu, CMF appointed as mission priest in charge
  • St. John the Baptist Parish, Nyamiongo (Musoma Diocese, established 1999): Evangelization work supported by Basic Ecclesial Communities (~16 groups), Marriage, Justice & Peace and liturgical committees; serving ~3,600 Catholics
  • St. Mary’s Parish, Kimara (Dar es Salaam, established 2004): A vibrant urban parish (~10,000 members) with arts & cultural groups, healing ministry, free tuition centre, and media outreach (Bible diaries, calendars, liturgical materials)
  • Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Buzuruga (Mwanza, established 2004): Active in liturgy, justice & peace, youth and BCC groups. 
  • St. Andrew Parish, Uhepela–Njombe (established 2015): Evangelization and educational support through emerging school initiatives.
  • St. Claret Parish, Michungwani (Dar es Salaam, established 2016): Evangelization with adjacent primary school and kindergarten that began in 2007, aiming to expand into secondary education and hostel facilities

Key Projects & Formation Initiatives

  • Makoko Family Centre (Musoma, 1995): The Claretian’s first mission in Tanzania focusing on laity formation via vocational training (carpentry, poultry, piggery, rabbitry), marriage seminars, youth retreats, boarding school (500 students as of 2005) and a dispensary. The Class VII exam cohort earned a regional “Grade A” rating.
  • St. Claret Dispensary & Healing Ministry (est. 1997): Offers dental, eye, maternity and alternative therapies with plans for mobile clinics and rural health education outreach.
  • Claretian Communications Mission (Kimara): Publishers of Kiswahili‑English Bible diaries, calendars, catechetical books; runs St. Claret Pre‑ & Primary School at Michungwani with a vision to launch secondary-level education

Parishes & Lay Engagement

  • Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Kiyunga (circa 2000): Catechetical training, formation, healing ministry, and technical education.
  • St. Claret Parish, Nyabwina (2006): Focus on lay formation and local evangelization.
  • St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Katukuru (2011): Engaged in social justice, youth groups, environmental concerns, and pastoral outreach;

Vocational Training & Student Residency

  • St. Claret Vocational Training Institute & Hostel, Kiyunga (est. 2009)
    Originally a formation center dating from 1997, it formally launched its technical vocational training programs in 2009. In 2022, 165 youth benefited from residential vocational training through the Proclade Internazionale “Hostel Maintenance” program (PYHMP) 

Water & Infrastructure at Katukuru Village

  • CMF supported five water tanks installation in Katukuru village, Mbarara Diocese. This was part of a Proclade-funded project referenced as “S003/2014” with €8,000 invested procladeint.org. These tanks aim to improve water collection and sanitation.

Holistic Healing & Community Health

  • St. Claret Holistic Healing Centre, Kiyunga (est. 1997)
    Offers holistic health services—reflexology, herbal medicine, massage—alongside conventional care. While financials aren’t itemized, CMF’s presence supports health access in rural communities
