significant chapter unfolded in the life of the faithful in Butalangu,Uganda

On Sunday, 19th January 2025, a significant chapter unfolded in the life of the faithful in Butalangu, Kasana Luweero Diocese, Uganda. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Parish was entrusted to the pastoral care of the Claretian Missionaries, marking a profound moment of joy and hope for the people of God.
This new parish comprises six sub-parishes: five substations—Butalangu, Wanzalangi, Lukumbi, Kakira, and Namatovu—which were previously part of Uganda Martyrs Catholic Parish, Kiwoko, and one substation, Kyanja, which came from Our Lady of Consolata Parish, Kapeeka.

The day’s celebrations began with the solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Rev. Fr. John Mary Lukwago, the parish priest of Kiwoko. The newly designated parish priest of Butalangu, Rev. Fr. Kizito Mapeera, CMF, concelebrated the Mass. The faithful, drawn from the various substations, participated actively in the liturgical celebration, joined by their leaders and catechists, in a spirit of unity and thanksgiving.

Following the Eucharistic celebration, an important step in the parish’s organizational life was taken as interim leaders were elected from among the existing leaders of the substations. This initial structure will serve to guide the parish as it embarks on its mission to proclaim the Gospel and serve the spiritual and needs of the community.
The official inauguration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Parish is scheduled to take place at a later date. As the parish begins this new journey under the guidance of the Claretian Missionaries, the faithful are invited to keep it in their prayers, entrusting its mission and ministry to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Anthony Mary Claret.
